Julia Schuurman

Julia Schuurman is a senior associate in the firm’s Litigation group. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation matters, particularly involving fraud, environmental contamination (including emerging contaminants), and internal investigations. She has significant experience in all phases of litigation, including pretrial procedure and discovery, motion practice, hearings, settlement, and appellate work. Julia has represented individuals, corporate clients, and state agencies as both a plaintiff and a defendant.

In addition to her litigation work, Julia leverages advanced legal technology tools to streamline discovery, manage large-scale document review, and enhance efficiency in case strategy development. Her familiarity with cutting-edge e-discovery platforms and data analytics enables her to deliver cost-effective solutions for clients in complex matters and manage case teams effectively.

Julia serves as outside counsel to multiple state attorneys general, seeking natural resource damages and related relief—including claims arising from per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination from industrial sites and other sources. Julia also represents the State of Maryland and its agencies in litigation arising from the M/V Dali’s allision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the Port of Baltimore in March 2024. She has an active pro bono immigration practice.
