Carrie Owens Quoted on New Customs Rules

Partner Carrie Owens was quoted by National Post, in their article, ​“Trump’s New U.S. Customs Rules Could Upend Canadian Exports.” The article covers a recent executive order that will heighten U.S. customs enforcement in order to crack down on trade fraud and shell importers that evade duties. 

“The purpose of this is good … It’s to stop illicit trade,” Carrie explains.

The article continues to describe the stricter entry requirements for foreign importers of record, noting that ​“the order could fundamentally change how many legitimate companies import into the United States.”

“The tariffs are a cost of doing business … Potentially, the actions that are happening could disrupt the flow of goods,” Carrie said.
