Carrie Owens and Hans Maxime Featured in International Trade Today
Partner Carrie Owens and Trade Analyst Hans Maxime presented the webinar, “The New Customs Enforcement Era: How Importers Can Prepare for Increased CBP Scrutiny,” which was featured in International Trade Today.
Their article, “Importers Should Review Definitions in June Enforcement EO, Start Collecting Export Documentation,” covers key takeaways from the webinar, including the importance of compiling export documentation. In the webinar, Carrie highlighted the expected increase in audits, investigations and enhanced data analysis.
She also noted changes in the criteria for foreign importers of record. She said, ““If you are a foreign importer of record, you can still be licensed and incorporated within the United States and be a foreign importer of record,” she said. “You are going to lose a lot of the abilities that you have. You are going to be in a higher risk category, and so it’s critical that you look at this with fresh eyes and understand that this is a very new construct that’s coming.”
Hans noted the importance of voluntary disclosure of any gaps or issues companies may be aware of.
“It’s for CBP not to be the one to find the issue first,” he said.
