Diversity Speaker Series Welcomes HNBA President

On June 6, Peter Reyes and Nuris Portuondo visited the New York office as part of our Diversity Speaker Series. Peter Reyes is the current president of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and a partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He is also the former senior intellectual property counsel at Cargill. Nuris Portuondo is vice president and assistant general counsel at JPMorgan Chase Bank, NA. During the panel, Mr. Reyes and Ms. Portuondo spoke openly about some of the current trends with respect to diversity and inclusion in the legal industry and in their respective spaces. They described some of the terminology being used and explained how and why diversity was personally important. The panel was conversational and informative and both guests were very well received.Following the presentation, a luncheon was hosted by partners Robert I. Steiner, William A. Escobar and Pamela Bruzzese-Szczygiel.
Later that day, Mr. Reyes participated in Kelley Drye’s Diversity Office Hours, talking with associates more personally about his work and the importance of networking and building relationships.
