Partner Chip Yorkgitis authored the In Compliance article “FCC Expands Role of TCBs in Equipment Authorization Regime.” The article outlines a 2014 equipment authorization rules revision by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that will require responsible parties to file all applications for certification with Telecommunications Certifications Bodies (TCBs). Chip explains the FCC’s Report and Order released in December, and the implications of the changes to TCB regulations. He notes that by relying more heavily on TCBs, the Commission hopes that, on average, radiofrequency devices subject to certification can be authorized and, thus, brought to market more quickly.
