Maria Pimienta focuses her practice on environmental and energy law. Her environmental practice includes serving as counsel for states, territories, and private-sector clients in disputes related to contamination and natural resource damages from emerging contaminants.
In addition, Maria maintains a pro bono practice, focusing on issues related to immigration.
Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Maria served as a legal intern at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Civil Rights Division, Immigrant and Employee Rights Section. At Georgetown University Law Center, Maria served as Senior Proofing Editor of the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal and authored an article on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals that was selected for publication. She also participated in Georgetown’s Street Law program by teaching practical law and mock trial skills to students in public and charter high schools in the District of Columbia.
Representing the State of Maryland and all State agencies in bringing claims for costs and damages resulting from the DALI’s allision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the Port of Baltimore in March 2024.
Served on a team representing the State of Alaska and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation in litigation filed in the United States District for the District of Alaska, seeking relief under the Administrative Procedure Act against the United States of America for its failure to comply with Congressional mandates to remedy contamination on ANCSA Lands.
Serving on a team representing Texas City Railway Terminal Company in an employment retaliation case asserting violations of the Federal Railroad Safety Act.
Serving on a team representing the State of New Hampshire in an action related to statewide-PFAS contamination, including litigation brought against 3M and DuPont related to PFAS contamination throughout New Hampshire.
Serving on a team representing Tex-Mix and its affiliates in several actions, some involving litigation, related to contract claims.
Serving on a team representing the State of North Carolina in an action related to PFAS contamination from an industrial facility located in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
