Joseph Cahill is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office. His practice centers on state and federal privacy regulation, artificial intelligence governance, and advertising. He advises clients on a wide range of issues, including compliance with emerging AI regulatory frameworks, data protection requirements, automated decision making and algorithmic transparency obligations, as well as price transparency and related disclosure practices. His experience includes conducting internal compliance assessments, drafting and implementing AI and data privacy policies, advising on algorithmic and promotional pricing strategies, and counseling clients on risk mitigation approaches for deploying machine learning systems.

Prior to joining the firm, Joseph was a judicial intern for the Honorable Carmen G. McLean in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. 

Drafted annual compliance reports for submission to the California Attorney General, including CCPA compliance reporting and related regulatory filings.

Advised on compliance with the Colorado AI Act and EU AI Act, including reviewing regulatory requirements, drafting client scoping questions, and preparing guidance on the classification of high-risk AI systems.

Conducted gap analyses comparing EU AI Act provider obligations against client AI model documentation and assessed compliance with provider documentation requirements.

Reviewed EU AI Act compliance requirements and the EU Digital Omnibus on AI proposal; drafted comprehensive compliance checklists to guide client implementation efforts.

Evaluated client pricing practices and advertising materials for compliance with emerging federal and state legislation concerning algorithmic pricing in the residential rental housing market, tracked legislative developments, and prepared client presentation materials summarizing regulatory findings and recommendations.

Managed a multi-week due diligence project in connection with a large transactional matter, identifying disclosure gaps and compliance issues, and led the in-person counterparty counsel review.
