J.R. Greenwalt is an associate in the Environmental Law practice. J.R. focuses his practice on environmental litigation on behalf of public-sector clients concerning contamination, natural resources impacts, and legal violations relating to emerging contaminants. Currently, J.R. serves on multiple teams that represent states in cases related to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), both in standalone lawsuits and in multidistrict litigation.
In addition to his environmental work, J.R. represents clients in commercial disputes with a focus on consumer data privacy.
While attending Tulane Law School, J.R. worked for the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic, representing communities in Cancer Alley, Louisiana, the heavily polluted region along the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Additionally, J.R. served as a Managing Editor for the Tulane Law Review where he wrote a comment analyzing the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency that was selected for publication. J.R. graduated from Tulane Law summa cum laude, received the Haber Joseph McCarthy Environmental Law Award for achieving the highest grade point average in environmental law coursework among graduating students, and was inducted into the Pro Bono Krewe for dedicating more than 150 hours of service to pro bono clients.
Serving on a team representing the State of New Hampshire in an action related to statewide-PFAS contamination, including litigation brought against 3M and DuPont related to PFAS contamination throughout the state.
Serving on teams representing states and sovereigns, including New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Chickasaw Nation, and Choctaw Nation, in litigation relating to contamination from PFAS-containing aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), currently consolidated in a multidistrict litigation in the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, In re: Aqueous Fil-Forming Foam Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2:18-mn2873-RMG.
Serving on team representing the State of Maryland in litigation involving decades of PFOA discharges from Gore’s manufacturing facilities in Cecil County, focusing his efforts on document discovery.
Serving on team representing Smart TV manufacturer in ongoing consumer data privacy litigation.
