The Wall Street Journal Reports on The Chief Justice Of Liberia’s Visit to Kelley Drye
WSJ.com noted Johnnie N. Lewis, the chief justice of Liberia, visited Kelley Drye and spoke with summer associates about reconstructing the rule of law in his country. The article stated, “But rather than canapés and cocktails, the purpose of this gathering was foreign law--specifically, Liberia’s attempt to revamp its post-civil war court system.” The article noted the country’s top jurist’s answers to a variety of questions on topics such as Liberia’s constitution, foreign investments and the appointment of judges. Wall Street Journal reporter Dan Slater asked the chief justice about the ICC’s decision to seek an arrest warrant for the president of Sudan on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity and noted Judge Lewis responded “if the allegations amount to genocide then he supports the move.”
Partner Robert L. Haig hosted the event. The delegation of Liberian jurists visited courts in several states, observing civil and criminal proceeding and met with judges, practitioners and students. The chief justice, also visited his alma mater, Yale University Law School and addressed the New York City Bar Association.
