Successful Pro Bono Representation of Immigrant Seeking Asylum
Kelley Drye attorneys have successfully represented several LGBTQ individuals applying for asylum in the United States due to the persecution they experienced in their countries of origin. Most recently, Kelley Drye successfully represented a gay immigrant from Russia. He prepared his asylum application and wrote an affidavit for the client recounting at length the many instances of abuse, persecution and assaults he experienced in Russia because of his sexual orientation. Kelley Drye worked extensively with the client to prepare him for his asylum interview and represented the client at that hearing. On December 28th, the client received a belated Christmas present, the granting of his asylum application, which is the first step on his road to US citizenship.
