Partner Paul C. Rosenthalwas quoted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article, “As steel lobby flexes muscle in Washington, next trade battle arrives in American kitchens.” The article discusses the rise of trade remedy cases under the Trump administration and whether the administration’s posture on U.S. – China trade has helped the steel industry use trade remedy laws more successfully.
Paul told the Post-Gazette that trade disputes are nothing new, noting that concerns about trade’s effect on American manufacturing grew in the 1980s, amid the rise of Japan and trade spats with Europe. “Everything you’re hearing about today — all these statutes that are being criticized as controversial — were being used in the ’80s by Reagan, a so-called free trader,” Mr. Rosenthal said.
