New York Law Journal Quotes Partner Robert L. Haig in Article on NYSBA’s Position on Attorney-Judges
Partner Robert L. Haig was quoted in a New York Law Journal article, “State Bar Says Defendants Should Have Option for Attorney-Judges.” The article focused on a debate in the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) House of Delegates about a state commission report on improving New York’s local justice courts. According to the article, “Only about 28 percent of the 2,150 town and village justices around the state are lawyers.” Mr. Haig is a member of NYSBA’s House of Delegates and he was also a member of the state commission which was appointed by former Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye. The NYSBA House of Delegates endorsed the state commission’s report including a provision that “defendants facing criminal misdemeanor charges in town and village courts should be allowed to demand that their cases be adjudicated by justices who are attorneys.”
