New Mexico Reaches Settlement in Gold King Mine Case
Partner Bill Jackson is quoted, and John Gilmour, Andrew Homer, and Lana Rowenko are mentioned in a Law360 story on the recent Gold King Mine settlement. The latest settlement means New Mexico has now received $48 million to redress the Gold King Mine blowout, after previously getting compensation from the U.S. government and several mining companies.
Lawyers with Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, which helped represent the state, last week touted the deal with Environmental Restoration and Weston Solutions as the latest settlement aimed at remediating ecological damage. Those agreements have made a “direct and substantial impact on the water quality, environment, lives and livelihoods of New Mexicans living in San Juan County,” Kelley Drye attorney Bill Jackson said, referring to the northwest corner of the state.
“We were also fortunate to work side-by-side with an amazing group of public servants at the New Mexico Environment Department, the Office of Natural Resource Trustee, and the Attorney General’s Office, who are all striving to protect human health and the environment of New Mexico,” said Jackson in a statement. “None of this would have happened without that amazing team.”
