Mashable Quotes Partner Gonzalo E. Mon on the Google+ Policy to Prohibit Promotions
Partner Gonzalo E. Mon was quoted in the Mashable article, “Want to Run a Contest or Promotion on Google+? Not So Fast.” The article discusses Google+‘s content policy, which bans direct hosting of contests, sweepstakes, offers, and coupons on the social network’s pages. Partially because of the many ways organizations and individuals can get into legal trouble while running a promotion, Google+ is avoiding becoming involved in legal battles by banning promotions on its platform.
Facebook, Mr. Mon points out, had similarly strict restrictions in place when it released its first content policy. “There are a lot of laws that govern what you can and can’t do, and I think Facebook was concerned that there were promotions on the platform that didn’t comply with those laws,” he says. But Facebook has since updated its policies to allow promotions administered within apps when each entrant agrees to fully release Facebook from responsibility. This, he reasons, helps draw the line between a Facebook promotion and a company promotion.
