Litigation Partner Comments on Bhopal Incident in Time Magazine
In a Time magazine article entitled “Who’s to Blame for Bhopal?”, Litigation partner William Krohley addressed reports by Britain’s New Scientist magazine that “new” documents shed light on Bhopal-related allegations against Union Carbide. In the article, he states that “in the 1980s, a U.S. court reviewed the entire history of the plant, including the ‘new’ documents, before dismissing a similar case.” According to the article, “the papers actually show just how tangled Bhopal’s history was,” including layers of Indian restrictions that kept U.S. owners at a distance, mandating that local workers design and operate the plant. “That may mean responsibility is more complicated, and closer to home, than activists think,” the article concludes.
