Kelley Drye Partner quoted in The Wall Street Journal
The Wall Street Journal quoted Partner Jack Miles in the article, “U.S. to End Contentious Phone Tax,” which discussed the U.S. Treasury’s defeat in its court battle over the collection of a long-distance telephone tax enacted to pay for the Spanish-American War. “There is going to have to be a company-by-company settlement,” Mr. Miles explained. “IRS officials have advised me that it will be years to clear up the corporate backlog,” he said, who had successfully sued the IRS on behalf of clients fighting the payment of the tax and has about 30 more clients with cases pending against the IRS. Mr. Miles was also quoted by Forbes magazine, as well as Tax Analysts’ Daily Tax Highlights & Documents, in articles which discussed the ongoing lawsuit and the IRS procedures for claiming the refunds.
