Firm Hosts Government Officials and Industry Members for Third Annual Summit on Advertising and Privacy Law
On June 11, 2015, attorneys from Kelley Drye & Warren, the nation’s premier advertising law practice, convened policy-makers and leaders of Fortune 500 and emerging companies for an advanced seminar on key issues in advertising, privacy, and consumer protection law. This year, tracking policy and enforcement trends, the Summit addressed how these issues arise within the backdrop of the Internet of Things.
More than 100 attendees from a broad range of industries across the U.S. heard from experts in various areas of the law. Jessica Rich, Director of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection, gave the keynote address, and Karen Doyne, Managing Director and Leader, U.S. Crisis Practice, Burson-Marsteller, gave the luncheon address, while Mark Eichorn, Assistant Director, FTC Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection (DPIP), was one of a number of outside panelists. At the Summit, speakers discussed and offered solutions to some of the most pressing issues affecting companies including:
- Keeping pace with the exponential growth of the Internet of Things
- The importance of substantiating all claims, and methods to do so
- Considering privacy and data security at every step of the business cycle
- Monitoring social media sites for potentially infringing user generated content
- How will the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) risks for companies change with the FCC poised to take significant action on long-pending petitions
- The concerns and opportunities created by health and fitness data generated by wearable technology
