Kelley Drye And Phillips 66 Partner To Support The Houston Food Bank
On Saturday, April 29th, attorneys and staff from Kelley Drye’s Houston and Washington, DC offices worked with a team from Phillips 66 to pack boxes to feed Houstonians in need. Volunteers sorted, packed and readied over 1,000 boxes of food for distribution, each box provides three meals to a family of four. In addition, Kelley Drye donated $5,000 to the Houston Food Bank which will purchase 15,000 meals.
Kelley Drye partnered with the Phillips 66 team for the Food from the Bar event. Food from the Bar is a month-long competition among Houston’s legal community where participants earn points by donating food, funds and volunteer time to benefit the Houston Food Bank. Through donations and support, the legal community helps Houston Food Bank feed more kids and families. The event is timed to raise much needed resources just before the summer break when kids will be out of school and not receiving school breakfast and lunches. Many families struggle to provide that extra food during the summer and this efforts helps bridge that gap.
The Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in the country. Last year, the Houston Food Bank distributed almost 80 million meals around the Houston area. Their goal is to expand their service to the community to 100 million meals by 2018. The Food Bank functions because of generous donations of volunteer hours, food, and monetary gifts. Every dollar donated to the Houston Food Bank provides the equivalent of three meals for an individual.
