IPWatchdog Notes Kelley Drye Representation of Triantafyllos Tafas in U.S. Supreme Court Amici Brief
The IPWatchdog article, “Amici Support i4i at Supreme Court in Microsoft Patent Case,” reviewed the amicus briefs in support of i4i in its dispute with Microsoft. The author, Gene Quinn, highlighted five of the briefs, including that of Dr. Triantafyllos, filed by Kelley Drye.
In August 2009, i4i won a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft and was awarded $290 million and an injunction against the software giant. Microsoft appealed the case. The multiple amicus briefs presented arguments that Microsoft’s position would devalue patents, weakening incentive of inventors’ innovations. The Tafas brief supported well established patent law that supports entrepreneurs who raise capital and create jobs.
