DataGuidance Quotes Partner Dana B. Rosenfeld on FTC Settlement with Mobile Apps Developer
Partner Dana B. Rosenfeld was quoted in the DataGuidance article, “US: First FTC Settlement with Mobile Apps Developer a ‘Significant Deterrent.’ ” The article discussed the Federal Trade Commission’s recent settlement with W3 Innovations over a violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. W3 Innovations agreed to pay $50,000 to settle the charges.
“Despite the low monetary penalty, the settlement is likely to have a significant deterrent value because of the message it sends to other mobile app operators regarding the application of COPPA to information collection via mobile apps,” said Ms. Rosenfeld. She continued, “While the W3 settlement marks the FTC’s first enforcement action against a mobile app developer, it won’t be the last.”
