Barbara Hoey Quoted in Law360 Article About New York’s Latest Harassment Law
Partner and chair of the labor and employment practice group, Barbara Hoey was quoted in the August 12, 2019 Law360 article, “Cuomo Signs Law Boosting Sexual Harassment Protections.”
On August 12, 2019, New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law sweeping anti-sexual harassment legislation that makes it easier for workers to win discrimination suits by eliminating a restriction requiring that harassment be “severe or pervasive” to make it to court.
Barbara told Law360 that the law brings a “myriad of significant changes” requiring a “holistic approach” and were quoted encouraging employers to review“everything that might be impacted by the new law, including mandatory arbitration provisions, non-disclosure provisions, training and beyond.” She also cautioned that “Get it wrong and open the floodgates to a new set of claims in unchartered territory.”
