Al Jazeera America Interviews Partner Alysa Zeltzer Hutnik on European Google Privacy Ruling
Partner Alysa Hutnik was interviewed on Al Jazeera America on May 14, 2014 to discuss the European Union court ruling that calls for Google to delete information that users request be taken off the internet. Alysa explains the applicability of this ruling to the United States, saying that “we don’t have this fundamental right to privacy” that the EU upholds. “There is a balance here, we have to balance it against our right to free speech and our right to free press… Even in this EU High court decision, there was a balancing there.” She highlights things like the economic interests of Google or the public’s right to access information as competing interests that have to be weighed against the right to privacy.
