Kelley Drye Participates in NGLCCNY Breakfast Event
April 13, 2012
On April 13,2012, associate Damon W. Suden attended a breakfast event with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, sponsored by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York. It was the inauguration of the NGLCCNY Legal Industry Council. This first of its kind NGLCCNY event, with more than 150 attendees ranging from lawyers to politicians, was hugely successful. Senator Gillibrand provided the attendees with a legislative synopsis of issues currently in the forefront of the LGBT community. The senator provided a behind-the-scenes account of the successful effort in Congress to repeal the military policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and also an update on efforts to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act and to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Former White House advisor, Richard Socarides, the president of the Lesbian & Gay Law Association of Greater New York, other politicians and leaders of the GLBT bar, and lawyers from many different companies and law firms attended the event.
