Fundraising for Super PACs and Candidates: What Consultants Should Know
Kelley Drye Seminar
April 11, 2016 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm (EDT)
On Monday, April 11th Kelley Drye hosted a luncheon seminar tailored for political fundraising consultants in the post-Citizens United world. This event focused on how the “soft money” and “coordination” restrictions apply to raising money for Super PACs and the candidates they support.
We discussed recent Federal Election Commission (FEC) guidance to Democrat Super PACs and how that applies to the interactions between federal candidates, Super PACs, and the consultants who raise money for them. Additionally, the seminar provided overviews of how to form Super PACs and the FEC’s enforcement processes.
Topics included:
- Recent FEC guidance on consultants’ ability to raise money for campaigns and the Super PACs that support them;
- Issues to consider when forming a Super PAC, particularly those dedicated to electing a single candidate;
- Overview of the FEC enforcement process; and
- Suggestions for establishing a successful compliance protocol.
