Double Remedies? A Closer Look at the United States-China Relationship

On March 7, 2012, partner Kathleen W. Cannon spoke at an American University Washington College of Law Founders Celebration event presented by the International Trade and Investment Law Society in Washington, D.C. Ms. Cannon presented on the panel, “Double Remedies? A Closer Look at the United States-China Relationship”. The panel discussed the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit recent decision in the case of GPX International Tire Corp. v. United States, in which the Court unanimously called into question the Department of Commerce’s authority to apply countervailing duties alongside antidumping duties to imported goods from non-market economies, such as China. The panel focused on the impact of this decision and how it might affect the future administration and practice of international trade with China.
