Balancing the Risks and Rewards of Consumer Location
October 6, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm (EDT)
If you are attending the IAPP Privacy. Security. Risk. 2023 Conference in San Diego on October 5 – 6, 2023 we invite you to join Partner Laura Riposo VanDruff and other industry professionals for a panel discussion on Balancing the Risks and Rewards of Consumer Location.
Consumer location data is a multi-billion-dollar industry, enabling businesses to make more strategic and targeted ad placements, and providing for foot traffic analytics for decision-making and marketing. But precise location data is also sensitive, presenting a range of privacy and security risks. As a result, the need to increase safeguards has become a key focus of public policy and industry self-regulation. Recently enacted state laws, as well evolving federal regulations and enforcement have dramatically increased uncertainty and legal risk around industry practices. This panel combines industry and legal experts to discuss the greatest risks to consumers, a summary of new legal requirements, and what companies can do to provide necessary safeguards.
What you will learn:
- An overview of new laws and regulations for collecting and processing consumer mobile location data.
- How industry self-regulatory organizations are working to raise the standards where laws are lagging and unclear.
- Best practices for privacy practitioners to protect consumers and comply with new and evolving legal requirements.
In addition, you are invited to participate in a pre-conference workshop hosted by Kelley Drye partners Alysa Hutnik, Laura VanDruff and Aaron Burstein, and industry partner, Ketch, on October 4 at the Pendry Hotel. Join us as we discuss data deletion, sensitive personal information, and data protection impact assessments. This workshop is highly interactive. We look forward to this time of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Register here.
