JAMES F. JACOBUS Partner
I have closed financing transactions that range in size, complexity and value from millions to multiple billions of dollars—my clients appreciate that I always work to find creative solutions that address their challenges and successfully close their deals.

James Jacobus concentrates his practice in the area of real estate finance and the capital markets.  Jim has represented U.S. and European investment banks, commercial banks, insurance companies, real estate funds, REITS and other institutional lenders in a wide variety of real estate finance transactions.

Jim has extensive experience in the origination, securitization and syndication of commercial mortgage loans, mezzanine loans, construction loans, balance sheet loans and fixed and floating rate loans.  His experience includes the origination of mortgage loans secured by various classes of property, including office, light industrial/warehouse, retail, hotel, casino, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and large pools of leased single-family and multifamily residential properties.  Jim also offers extensive skill pertaining to the origination and securitization of mortgage loans secured by health care properties that are structured using master leases and operating leases in opco/propco structures.

Jim’s financing and capital markets experience is truly extensive.  In his second decade of practice, he has successfully closed transactions involving challenges that seemed insurmountable to most.  Jim’s approach to every deal is to find the right solution to every problem, which is not always the easy or obvious one.  His exceptional industry knowledge, drafting and negotiation skills allow him to bring deal constituents together to create synergy and ensure the right result for his client.

Notably, Jim has worked on a number of multibillion-dollar transactions involving mortgage and corporate level financings secured by hundreds of skilled nursing and assisted living facilities in opco/propco structures.  In addition, Jim worked on a $2 billon mortgage and mezzanine loan financing of a large transaction involving the public to private acquisition of a chain of hotel properties.  Moreover, Jim has worked on many transactions involving borrowers who are not familiar with capital markets lending, and has been able to guide such borrowers to successful closings for a lender.
