Catie James is special counsel in the firm’s Chicago office. Catie’s practice focuses on telecommunications, commercial litigation, and products liability defense, representing clients from a wide variety of industries. Her experience includes Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) cases, complex commercial litigation, and products liability litigation. In addition, Catie has represented clients in a broad variety of intellectual property disputes, including patent, trademark, and trade secret litigations.

Part of federal litigation team challenging as preempted state law imposing enhanced regulatory fees on providers of Lifeline services.

Represented a broadcast satellite service provider in litigation initiated by the FTC and several states in federal court, seeking civil penalties for violations of the FTC’s Telemarketing Sales Rule for alleged calls placed to telephone numbers listed on the Do Not Call Registry and the provider’s internal Do Not Call list, and for calls made by independent third-party retailers.

Member of the defense team in patent litigation alleging infringement of design and utility patents, unfair competition and false designation of origin, and trade dress infringement.

Secured favorable settlement for defendant in federal litigation alleging violations of the Telemarketing Sales Rules and TCPA.

Represented company in trademark litigation relating to use of the company name, securing favorable settlement that did not require a change in name.

Part of trial team representing a leading North American manufacturer of freight rail cars, in connection with an action for breach of contract and warranties arising out of a $110 million transaction to build and sell rail cars to plaintiff. Secured a favorable settlement prior to trial.

Represented large quick service restaurant in responding to Order to File Special Report issued by the Federal Trade Commission.

Member of plaintiff’s litigation team in action against dominant competitor alleging violations of federal and state anti-trust and unfair competition laws.

Drafted successful arbitration brief where claimant sought broad enforcement of non-compete agreement and damages for alleged breach of the agreement.

Represented defendant in mandatory arbitration in the Circuit Court of Cook County in a premises liability case, resulting in a finding of no liability.

Drafted employee non-disclosure agreements for telecommunications company.
