This article addresses violence in the workplace and the steps that Human Resource professionals can take to protect their company and its employees, while staying within the boundaries of the law, when someone behaves in a threatening manner. The article advises HR professionals on how to generally make their workplace safer as well as how to handle employees with mental illness in the best legal manner. By using case examples the author highlights how this advice applies in real-life situations. The article concludes by outlining steps to make the workplace safer, such as auditing processes, publishing good policies, and ensuring everyone is aware of these policies.
