Kelley Drye Volunteers in SAGE Legal Clinic

Kelley Drye recently participated in The Future of Aging is in Our Hands, a national conference for LGBT older adults, organized by SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Elders) on November 12, 2010. This conference, the first of its kind, brought together LGBT seniors from around the country for three days of workshops and clinics on issues relevant to LGBT older adults.

SAGE’s organizing committee identified the preparation of advance directives (including health care proxies, powers of attorney and living wills) as an major concern for LGBT seniors. For many LGBT older adults, advance directives are essential to ensuring that their personal healthcare choices and wishes are respected and carried out. Attendees at the SAGE conference had an opportunity to attend a presentation given by a SAGE attorney regarding the importance and scope of advance directives. Following that presentation, attendees signed up for one on one sessions with volunteer attorneys in order to complete advance directives.
