Partner Eric R. McClafferty was quoted in the ViewsWeek article “Drone Proliferation Tests Arms Control.” The article focuses on the U.S. government’s interagency review of rules governing the export of large drones and what this means for the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). The voluntary arrangement seeks to prevent the proliferation of unmanned systems capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction. Mr. McClafferty notes that, “It’s quite unlikely that we will see any radical change in the MTCR. That said, there’s a lot of pressure on the U.S. government to liberalize controls to make sure the U.S. doesn’t get left behind in this market.” In reference to MTCR’s effects on UAV manufacturers, he goes on to point out that, “A lot of people feel that these markets are starting to close out, that foreign competition is going to capture market share.”
