Partner W. Michael Ryan was featured in The Metropolitan Corporate Counsel article titled “A New Entrant in the Cyberspace Arena – Cloud Computing.” Mr. Ryan explained that cloud computing allows “computer technology to be accessed as a service over the Internet from any location, so that computer technology, programs and data can be available when and where the user needs them.” He reviewed the three basic types of cloud services: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS). Mr. Ryan discussed the three ways of deploying these types of services with “private clouds,” “public clouds” and “community cloud computing.” The article addressed the laws involved with cloud computing and issues to consider when contracting with service providers. The article also covered security and loss of data with this growing area of Internet technology.
