Changes in the Retail Space

New York City Bar Association Fashion Law Committee Panel

January 17, 2018

Special counsel Patricia Werner will be participating in a panel discussion at the New York City Bar Association for the Fashion Law Committe concerning changes in the retail space.

While overall consumer spending shifts from brick-and-mortar to e-commerce, the ascendancy of Amazon within the fashion sector is not entirely predicated on retail’s shift. Rather, Amazon seeks to disrupt and enter the market through its logistics business, Fulfillment by Amazon (“FBA”).  Fashion brands are adapting to thrive in the shadow of Amazon and other online marketplaces.  This raises critical questions for other fashion entities who are attempting to adapt in retail’s changing landscape, from intellectual property enforcement to customs to antitrust concerns.
