Sarah Reid is a partner in the firm's New York office. She focuses her practice on complex litigation. Over the course of her career she has handled a wide range of commercial disputes for major U.S. and international companies.
Ms. Reid has extensive experience in handling jury and bench trials, arbitrations, mediations and bankruptcy-related litigation around the country. She has argued appeals before numerous appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ms. Reid represents financial institutions with respect to claims arising out of defaulted securities and loans, securities litigation, ERISA and corporate trust. She has represented international and U.S. companies in the pharmaceutical, telecommunications, energy and liquor industries in commercial, contract, intellectual property and environmental disputes. She is experienced in representing directors and officers in litigations and investigations. She also counsels healthcare and academic institutions.
Ms. Reid is a member of the firm's Executive Committee, chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and organizer of the women partners initiative at the firm.
Representative Experience
Represented a major bank, as indenture trustee, before the U.S. Supreme Court in successfully defending a $100 million judgment obtained by the bank for the benefit of noteholders.
Representing a foreign bank in connection with a suit alleging California securities claims.
Representing a foreign bank lending syndicate member in U.S. litigations arising from a failed resort development project.
Represented an international telecommunications company in an ICC arbitration pending in Hong Kong.
Defended a large generic drug manufacturer in nationwide AWP pricing False Claim Act cases brought by the Department of Justice and state Attorney Generals.
Advising a Fortune 500 company concerning the False Claims Act.
Representing a major bank, as indenture trustee, in proceedings to determine rights under subordination agreements arising out of the Bank of New England and Calpine bankruptcies.
Advising corporate and individual investors who suffered losses from the Madoff-related Ponzi scheme.
Representing the corporate bank trustee of the National Tobacco Growers Settlement Trust.
Representing a major oil company in connection with environmental claims brought in state and federal court in Brooklyn, New York.
Advising a New York medical school on academic issues and litigation.
Represented a major oil company in an emergency application to enjoin draw-down of a letter of credit in the Lehman Bros. bankruptcy. Matter was resolved favorably for the client.
Advised a Fortune 500 client concerning rights to withdraw ERISA assets from an investment fund.
Represented a major bank, as indenture trustee, in prosecuting and settling litigated claims in the Calpine bankruptcy for benefit of the noteholders.
Represented a foreign pharmaceutical company in an arbitration over ownership of rights to a monoclonal antibody.
Represented a major bank in a month-long state court trial in Texas involving breach of fiduciary duty claims brought by distressed debt noteholders. The case settled favorably for the client.
Represented a major bank as part of trial team in a lawsuit against 11 insurance companies seeking recovery of more than $1 billion under surety bonds involving Enron. The case settled favorably after a month-long trial.
Represented a major liquor company as a member of the trial team in a case trial in the Southern District of New York to determine ownership of the HAVANA CLUB trademark.
Obtained summary judgment on behalf of an independent director sued by a creditors' committee for breach of fiduciary duty.
Obtained a defense verdict in the jury trial of a former CEO of a software company in a 10b-5 class action.
Represented various floor traders in NYSE investigations.
Represented various broker dealers in NASD arbitrations involving customer complaints and unfair competition complaints.
