As the AG press releases show, some AGs use [voluntary dispute resolution](https://www.tn.gov/attorneygeneral/news/2025/3/4/pr25-10.html) to obtain relief from consumer complaints, and others take a [monitoring ](https://oag.ca.gov/news/press-releases/recognition-national-consumer-protection-week-attorney-general-bonta-releases)approach, often referring to other agencies as appropriate. #### [AGs Ask Congress to Take Further Action on ORC](https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/ags-ask-congress-to-take-further-action-on-orc) If you have been following our [blogs](https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/staying-informed-updates-regarding-state-inform-acts), it should be no surprise that the Attorneys General remain focused on combatting Organized Retail Crime (ORC) using available state and federal tools. The Attorneys General of Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, and South Carolina co-led a bipartisan [letter](https://illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/News-Room/Current-News/Ltr%20to%20119th%20Congress%20re%20CORC_FINAL.pdf?language_id=1) joined by 34 other Attorneys General (AGs) to encourage Congress to help ​“combat the nationwide organized retail crime epidemic” as retailers across the country have been forced to close stores due to financial losses and physical dangers from crime. These store closures, the AGs explain, often result in underrepresented communities losing access to necessary consumer goods. #### [Understanding Multistate Enforcement: Insights from the ABA’s New Consumer Protection Guide](https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/understanding-multistate-enforcement-insights-from-the-abas-new-consumer-protection-guide) Kelley Drye Special Counsel [Abigail Stempson](https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/abigail-stempson) has contributed to *[Consumer Protection: Understanding Enforcement Actions Brought by State Attorneys General](https://www.americanbar.org/products/inv/book/447873903/)*, a newly released publication from the American Bar Association. Abby co-authored Chapter 8, which focuses on multistate enforcement matters—an area of critical importance for in-house counsel and businesses navigating state consumer protection laws. #### [Privacy, Consumer Protection, and State AG Enforcement Action: What to Expect in 2025](https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/privacy-consumer-protection-and-state-ag-enforcement-action-what-to-expect-in-2025) ***Comprehensive state privacy laws are the ​“new normal.”*** Comprehensive state privacy legislation is unlikely to slow down any time soon. In the first few weeks of 2025 alone, nineteen comprehensive privacy bills were introduced across ten states. As more states endeavor to jump on the privacy bandwagon, consumer protection offices will no doubt begin to ramp up education and enforcement efforts. #### [Multistate Coalition Files Amicus Brief Warning Against Efforts to Dismantle the CFPB](https://www.kelleydrye.com/viewpoints/blogs/ad-law-access/multistate-coalition-files-amicus-brief-warning-against-efforts-to-dismantle-the-cfpb) In February, a coalition of all 23 democratic attorneys general filed an [amicus brief](https://ag.ny.gov/sites/default/files/amicus-curiae/mayor-and-city-council-of-baltimore-v-consumer-financial-protection-bureau-amicus-brief-2025.pdf) in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland warning against efforts by the Trump Administration to defund and disband the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
