# Consumer Product Safety Commission Reporting FAQs

Since its establishment in 1972, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has played a significant role in outlining and issuing safety standards for a wide range of consumer products introduced into the global market. The recent influx of high-profile recalls has heightened consumer awareness and increased regulatory concern regarding both issuance of, and compliance with, safety standards – leading Congress to pass the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, establishing new and amended consumer product safety standards for children’s and other products and significantly adding to the budget, oversight responsibilities, and enforcement powers of the CPSC.
