The chapter examines the new U.S. congressional gift and travel rules in detail. The chapter provides an overview of the new gift rules under the Honest Leadership and Government Act of 2007, explaining the scope of the new ban on gifts from lobbyists and entities retaining lobbyists, as well as detailing the many and still varied exceptions to the ban. In addition, the chapter covers new House and Senate rules and law regarding privately-sponsored travel, another area in which the new law and rules have significantly curtailed lobbyist and lobbying activities.
