# United Kingdom Sanctions Putin, EU and U.S. to Join Shortly

Today, the United Kingdom imposed [asset freeze restrictions](https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1057536/Notice_Russia_250222.pdf) on Vladimir Putin and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The largely symbolic measure requires that funds, assets, and economic resources subject to U.K. jurisdiction belonging to Putin and Lavrov be frozen.

Media reports indicate that the [United States](https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/25/politics/us-putin-sanctions/index.html) and [European Union](https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/eu-says-sanctions-target-70-russian-banking-market-2022-02-25/) will implement similar measures.
