# Tension Between EU Data Protection Laws and U.S. Discovery Requests

The article focused on the French Data Protection Agency’s published recommendations on how companies in France and other European countries can comply with data protection laws in transferring personal data to the United States for litigation purposes. The article discussed the ​“proportionality” and ​“legitimate” requirements in data transfers; the Hague Evidence Convention procedures; and penalties for violating data protection laws.
