# Practical Legal Considerations When Thinking About Cloud Computing

Senior associate [Michael Dover](/Our-People/Michael-Dover) co-authored the *Metropolitan Corporate Counsel* article ​“Practical Legal Considerations When Thinking About Cloud Computing.” The article outlines cloud computing and the legal and regulatory issues that companies should consider before entering into a cloud relationship. Michael describes the common cloud computing service models and the four main cloud infrastructure models: private, public, community, and hybrid. It also provides several considerations that a business should evaluate in a cloud service provider agreement: data collection and privacy, data storage, service interruptions, termination assistance and intellectual property rights. Lastly, the article covers post-contracting concerns and suggest that businesses should consider whether their data is subject to a third party civil or government subpoena issued to their cloud service provider.
