# Litigators Navigate ESI with Data Maps

This article explains ​“data maps,” which set forth what information a client has and where it is stored. The author describes the problems that arise when companies lack or maintain poor, or unknown data maps and how to cure this situation. He provides steps on how to efficiently work with IT specialists and ESI vendors through the data mapping process. Finally, the article provides tips on keeping the information system updated.
