# LA Lakers Score a Slam Dunk in Text Message Suit

Partner [Gonzalo Mon](/Our-People/Gonzalo-E-Mon) authored the *Sports Litigation Alert* article, ​“LA Lakers Score a Slam Dunk in Text Message Suit.” The article discusses the recent victory in a case against the LA Lakers over allegedly unsolicited text messages. A California court ruled in favor of the basketball team, applying a ​“common sense” reading of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Gonzalo states that while there are still a number of legal risks associated with text message campaigns, this decision demonstrates that companies who fight back aggressively against these types of nuisance suits have a good chance of prevailing.
