# Advocating Differences: From Hell’s Kitchen to Park Avenue

In the interview, [Jim Carr](/Our-People/James-S-Carr) describes his personal experience in overcoming a challenging background to become the chair of Kelley Drye’s Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice group. He discusses how different kinds of diverse backgrounds can help in the development of good lawyering skills and how diverse lawyers add to the strength of the firm’s practices. The article notes Jim’s leading practice that includes creditor representations for companies in the petroleum, energy, chemical, retail and airline industries.
