Joan Galvin advocates on behalf of client interests before the U.S. Congress and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of the Interior and U.S. Department of Agriculture, in the areas of agriculture, immigration, marine science, fisheries, wildlife, environmental law and telecommunications. She develops and executes strategies to secure state and federal funding on behalf of clients, lobbies at the federal, state, local and international levels, and builds industry coalitions to support client interests.

Joan is the consummate strategist and goal setter when serving her clients. She is appreciated by clients and colleagues alike for her candor, responsiveness and efficiency when it comes to finding solutions to even the most difficult problems. Notably, government professionals and regulators alike appreciate Joan’s straightforward communication style, ability to build rapport and establish immediate credibility. In fact, Joan has been known to add value by enhancing the relationships of her clients with their constituents.

Prior to joining Kelley Drye, Joan was a principal with the Livingston Group, where she focused on appropriations, agriculture and environmental matters. For the past two decades, she has participated as a nongovernmental observer and monitored issues on behalf of industry clients under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, Convention on Biodiversity and World Animal Health Organization. Joan also previously served as director of Communications, Public Relations and Government Relations for Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, a private nonprofit marine research laboratory and aquarium, for which she obtained state and federal funding for marine research and education projects.

Prior to that, Joan served as vice president for Government Relations at Feld Entertainment, Inc., a global live family entertainment company that is the parent to Ringling Bros & Barnum and Bailey and Disney on Ice. She lobbied at the federal, state, local and international levels on behalf of Feld’s interests and developed industry coalitions. Joan focused on international environmental and agricultural law, including the Endangered Species Act and Animal Welfare Act. She was responsible for spearheading Feld’s efforts to develop conservation programs in situ and ex situ on behalf of the Ringling Bros. Center for Elephant Conservation, a private program dedicated to the study, conservation and captive breeding of Asian elephants. Joan continues to advise Feld and others in the circus, public display and mobile amusement industries.

Joan currently serves as an advisor to the International Elephant Foundation, the Outdoor Amusement Business Association, the Mote Marine Laboratory Advisory Council and the World Circus Federation, based in Monaco.
