# Wall Street Journal’s Risk & Compliance Journal Quotes Partner Eric McClafferty on Exports to Iran

Partner [Eric McClafferty](/Our-People/Eric-McClafferty) was quoted in the *Wall Street Journal’s* *Risk & Compliance Journal* article ​“Selling to Iran Still Risky Business.” The article discusses how although the U.S. is loosening sanctions on Iran, pursuing deals in the country is still perilous. This interim deal with Iran expires on July 20, and so any business contract would have to be complete by then. It seems this may be more of a signal to Iran rather than real economic relief. Eric explained, ​“It shows that longer loosening is a real possibility, and it says ​‘if you are willing to sit down we will react quickly. But the carrot is not huge from a practical perspective.”
