# Partner Barbara Hoey Interviewed About Supreme Court Forced Fees Ruling

Partner [Barbara Hoey ](/Our-People/Barbara-E-Hoey)was featured on Dr. Drew *Midday Live* with Lauren Sivan on Talk Radio 790/KABC in Los Angeles and on KGO 810 in San Francisco to discuss the Supreme Court’s overturn of a 40-year-old precedent. The Supreme Court ruled 5-4 Wednesday in Janus v. AFSCME that nonunion workers cannot be forced to pay fees to public sector unions.

“The Count found that for a public sector, union employees must choose to support the union before any money is taken from them,” said Barbara, ​“and that compelling employee to pay any fee to a union if they did not wish to pay it, is a violation to their first amendment right.”
