# New York Law Journal Quotes Partner Robert L. Haig in Article on NYSBA’s Position on Attorney-Judges

Partner Robert L. Haig was quoted in a *New York Law Journal* article, ​“State Bar Says Defendants Should Have Option for Attorney-Judges.” The article focused on a debate in the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) House of Delegates about a state commission report on improving New York’s local justice courts. According to the article, ​“Only about 28 percent of the 2,150 town and village justices around the state are lawyers.” Mr. Haig is a member of NYSBA’s House of Delegates and he was also a member of the state commission which was appointed by former Chief Judge Judith S. Kaye. The NYSBA House of Delegates endorsed the state commission’s report including a provision that ​“defendants facing criminal misdemeanor charges in town and village courts should be allowed to demand that their cases be adjudicated by justices who are attorneys.”
