Partner [Christie Grymes Thompson](/Our-People/Christie-Grymes-Thompson) was featured in the *Law360* article ​“FTC’s Suit Against VW Emissions Ads Faces Damages Hurdle.” The article covers the Federal Trade Commission’s claim that consumers suffered ​“billions” of dollars in injuries because of Volkswagen’s ​“clean diesel” advertisements. It also notes that attorneys are saying that the agency faces the subjective question of how much value drivers assigned to the cars’ supposed environmental friendliness. ​“A court would look to see what element of the overall purchase price the consumer might have associated with the reported environmental benefits,” said Ms. Thompson. ​“In this case, that conversation gets more complicated because the product had a wide range of performance characteristics, and as a car, it did get \[the consumers\] from point A to point B.”
