Corporate partner [Carol Sherman](/Our-People/Carol-W-Sherman) was recently quoted in *Law360* discussing how the COVID-19 pandemic has forced a migration to virtual shareholder meetings. As a result, companies have been forced to navigate new technological and logistical challenges, including state laws that constrain how online meetings are conducted.

Carol comments on how it is critical to check state laws. She reports that one state, Illinois, forced companies to grapple with a challenging requirement of allowing all participants in the meeting to be able to communicate with each other.

In addition, Carol observes that there could be considerable cost savings in conducting virtual meetings.
