# Laura VanDruff Quoted in Privacy Daily on COPPA

Partner [Laura Riposo VanDruff](https://www.kelleydrye.com/people/laura-riposo-vandruff) was quoted in *Privacy Daily* on the FTC’s recent policy statement on the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The FTC issued a policy statement saying the agency will not bring COPPA enforcement action against companies that collect and use personal information for the sole purpose of verifying age. Many attorneys agree that the statement is unlikely to have a significant impact on company practices.

“When a company gains ​‘actual knowledge’ of user age, it can trigger state law requirements and liability under comprehensive privacy laws and age-appropriate design codes,” said Laura. ​“AGs have made youth safety an enforcement priority and actual knowledge can trigger requirements for stricter default settings, limits on profiling, risk assessments and product design changes.”
